September TBR

By

Good evening,

Instead of actually tackling my August TBR, I spent this afternoon thinking of the books that I really believe I can finish this time!

If you follow me for another month or two, you’ll start to see a pattern. I never really complete my reading goals until June and July when I read books back to back. But I started this blog in August, so get ready to either hold me accountable, find my results amusing, or feel understood.

I’ve also mentioned in the past that I like to mix up my TBR with an array of genres, but I also broke that promise this month.

September’s lineup has a definite theme, though.

Guess the theme of September’s picks!

BIOGRAPHICAL FICTION

Black Swans: Stories

by Eve Babitz

LITERARY FICTION

Writers & Lovers

by Lily King

LITERARY/ DYSTOPIAN FICTION

I Who Have Never Known Men

by Jaqueline Harpman

DYSTOPIAN/ POLITICAL FICTION

1984

by George Orwell

EXISTENTIAL FICTION

The Fall

by Albert Camus

And of course:

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL LITERARY ESSAYS

The White Album

by Joan Didion

Angela, I think I responded before. I also don’t always include my name in my posts.

Great book selection. I’ve read a few of those recently.

Thank you :) I’d love to hear which ones you’ve read, besides 1984 and The Fall, haha. I know I should’ve read them by now.

This looks like a great goal! I love it when I find people posting books I love and then reading the other books they post about. If you’re willing to read Didion and Camus, the other books must be good too!

Thank you, Michelle :) I’m the same way when it comes to book content. Sometimes it’s nice to find blogs with a similar taste in books. Thank you so much for your comment!

I have read both of those when I studied literature, many years ago. I’ve just finished the Black Swans. That was heavy going to start, but I enjoyed it once I got going.

Do you recommend I read it last?

  5. Belvesuscounselling Avatar

Yes, if you want to get through them all. Out of that selection I enjoyed I who have not known men the best.

Thank you for the advice :) What about the other two books you haven’t read? Would you read them?

You got this! You can finish the books this month AND read everything in this list in September!

    1. In Between The Lines Avatar

Hahaha, thank you! Like Jordi said, it’s the weekend, and I have three days to tackle three books. I’m already halfway through two of them, so I might be alright.

      1. Sarah'sbookcover07 Avatar

Exactly, let me know how it went on Monday.

      2. In Between The Lines Avatar

        I definitely will haha

you’ve got 3 days to read what, 3 books? And it’s the weekend… you can absolutely finish your tbr.

Update: It’s Sunday and I still haven’t opened any of the books… I can use yesterday’s chaos as an excuse but that’s about it.

    Dear Belvesus
The morning tea or coffee can wait, like we wait for spouse to join, but your post can’t wait. In the sense, I can’t wait to read your post.

I’ve told you a couple of times on my other posts. My name is Angela, it’s also featured in longer posts, like in book reviews or opinion pieces✨

      3. veerites Avatar

I had immediately recalled your name. I’m sorry 😞

      4. In Between The Lines Avatar

No, don’t be at all! It just made me question whether my response even sent last time haha.

I am sorry, Dear Angela 🙏🙏

      No worries at all!

My oldest and I are reading, I Who Have Never Known Men right now. What a great reading list! Joan Didion is a fave of mine. Great list!

    1. In Between The Lines Avatar

Thank you for your comment and input! I’m glad you like the list. How are you both liking the book so far? I’m still wondering which one I should read first💙

      1. KE Upton Avatar

It’s pretty good. We both also enjoy reading Bell Hooks, so it was a natural progression after their work. Love your TBR lists! “It All Comes Back” is one of my all time favorite writings from Joan Didion. I keep a quote in my writing area with a quote of her’s: “I have already lost touch with a couple of people I used to be.”

      2. In Between The Lines Avatar

Thank you! And I will be reading that next, then! I have the tendency to leave things I know I will love for a future filled with new interests, so I never quite get to them. I’ll try to get to every author I’ve been putting off before the year ends.

I recently read George Orwell’s 1984 as well as Animal Farm. Both are great, but 1984 feels especially relevant in today’s world. Definitely a thought-provoking read for our times!

    And the theme is fiction?

    1. In Between The Lines Avatar

Yes, exactly, that’s why I’m rereading 1984 this month! And fiction is definitely a theme, but there’s another main idea between most of the books.

    Dystopia then? Please tell 🙏
