Dear readers,

As the year began, I made a promise to myself: I wanted to read more. I wanted to step back from the long hours I was putting into work. But saving money quickly became my top priority, and I ended up taking on more hours, more lessons, more work.

Every morning, I found myself running the same calculations, where could I fit in a few minutes to read? Ten or fifteen minutes on the commute, twenty if I managed to sit down. A few more after work on a bench between lessons. Maybe a chapter if I woke up earlier. Finishing a book started to feel like a real milestone.

Last week, I gave my 2 months’ notice, and I’m now sitting in a truly exciting area between the life that I wanted to leave, and the one I am about to design. However, in the meantime, I actually have time. Time to read, write, and cultivate my sense of purpose. I am aware that this time won’t last as long as it feels at the moment, but I am going to squeeze every second of it!

So as May begins, along with Labour weekend and a new season in our Online Book Club, it feels like the perfect moment to start something new. This month, we are reading The Details by Ia Genberg.
