Day 5
Started Today On: Page 92
Today I got 40 minutes of reading time in and read 34 pages. One more page than yesterday. With some reading time this weekend, I do actually believe I could finish Writers & Lovers, and start The Unwilding by Monday. Optimism and stride are the last things to lose.
In just 126 pages, Writers & Lovers by Lily King has managed to touch on grief, writing and writers while keeping you wondering what the actual plot is going to be. Every insight into Casey’s life feels like a peek into a dim memory that might be important, or a mere expressed thought. I have felt grounded and present with every scene, as I am reminded of the value in caring about something just for what it is.
Every conversation between esteemed writers, every look into how grief morphs into rituals and beliefs that arise from life’s disruptions, feels like you’re holding a person. It ceases to feel like a book.
Today’s highlights:
“My voice is nothing special, but when your mother tells you something about yourself, even if you’ve coaxed it out of her, it’s hard not to always believe it.”

“Like many parents, my father wanted to give me what he didn’t get, then he wanted me to get what he couldn’t reach.”

I hope you all had time to fit something you love into today. Let me know what that thing is!
