Before August ends

August 2025

Dear readers,

I hope this doesn’t come off as a filler post, but I would like to look back at my first month on WordPress. First month back anyways, as I used to love writing for another blog years ago.

In four weeks, I have managed to interact with 89 amazing subscribers. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts more than I thought I would. Reader has become my daily magazine and I’m constantly inspired to just write, even if it isn’t a piece I’ve spent time on.

Latest goal reached

I have tried TikTok, Pinterest, and X to get my name out there and nothing has been as successful as finding organic support from WordPress itself. That was a definitive surprise.

Last Twitter (X) post
One of my first goals

I don’t have any set goals for September, other than to be consistent and put my perfectionism aside. No one likes a perfectionist. I’m beginning to learn that in every sphere I tap into.

So I’m ready to start a month of writing and prepared to get rid of the belief that I need an entire afternoon to do something that calls me.

Thank you so much, Thomas. Your congratulations and compliment have already improved my day! And yes, almost exactly a month. I feel like I’ve had it for over 5 months though haha.

Congrats, and greetings from an old-timer (I’ve been blogging on WordPress since 2007). I think you’re right that consistency is key, and also letting go of perfectionism. I started with a goal of reviewing every book I read and was posting multiple times per week, but that quickly became overwhelming, so now I content myself with a couple of posts a month.

It’s always good to discover a new blog, so welcome to what we used to call the blogosphere :)

    1. In Between The Lines Avatar

Thank you, Andrew! I’m still shocked by the fact that you you’ve been consistently posting in your blog for almost 19 years. What kept your momentum going?

      1. Andrew Blackman Avatar

Yeah, I’m shocked too when you put it that way :) I think the key thing for me has been that I enjoy it, and I write what I feel like. A few times over the years I’ve started writing what I thought other people would want to read or what I thought would get me a bigger audience, but ultimately I’m happier when I view it as a personal space to write what I feel like. I don’t have a massive following and my posts don’t go viral, but I have a solid community of readers, some of whom have been around for a decade or more, and I love connecting with them and exchanging ideas and so on. That’s good enough for me.

Also, I write less when things get busy and more when I have more time. “Consistent” for me just means that I don’t let the blog die altogether, but I don’t feel bad if I miss a few weeks, and I certainly don’t force myself to write when I don’t have time or don’t feel like it. That’s when it becomes a burden, and I’ve seen loads of people quit blogging for that reason.

It truly is impressive… not just for building it and working on it but to keep coming back to the same project. I think I’m used to everyone around me, including myself, leaving things unfinished out of fear of wasting “more time.”

And the way that you prioritise quality over numbers and maintaining engaging members in your community.

I will take everything you’ve mentioned and try to apply it. I don’t have any mentors or many bloggers that I look up to yet, so this was truly enlightening. Thank you for everything and keep up all the work you’re already putting into your blog, and in sure all else in life.

Glad it was helpful! I don’t generally dish out advice like that, but I’m always happy to do so when asked :)

      4. In Between The Lines Avatar

I’m really glad I asked then😊 It’s been more than helpful, so thank you for taking the time to write your detailed advice. As I mentioned in my previous comment, it’s great to have blogs to look at for inspiration, especially when they’re created with care and to create a community.

Best of luck with everything, including your blog!

I’ve been blogging since blogging began back in the days of Yahoo360 which disappeared into Multiply which in turn disappeared and a few others as well but WordPress seems to be here to stay. I even remember when YouTube was a separate entity called UTube. Writing is a good hobby in retirement.

    1. In Between The Lines Avatar

Wow, how have you been doing consistent? That’s incredibly impressive.

Writing is my hobby in retirement. I started with short stories and then morphed into what I call mini-novels which I enjoy researching and writing.

I am in awe of consistent bloggers… Since two weeks I have developed a monthly plan that varies book reviews, long blogs and short, fun ones. I love it especially now my hero Jill Needlemore is ready to present herself more to the world! You are an inspoiration!

Thank you so much, Kirsten! That’s so lovely to read, I really appreciate it and hope to see your blog soon!
