Reading in June – Day 23

Day 23

I woke with a sudden burst of energy and decided to deep clean my house. I knew I should have been resting, but I needed the perfect environment if I was going to feel better. Every book came off the shelves. Every item disappeared from the coffee table. Every drawer was emptied.

A blank canvas.

By the time the surfaces were spotless, my body reminded me of the fever.

Cold sweats. Unsteady tremors. A fatigue that settled into my bones.

Three hours later, the house was finished.

I rested, but I did not sleep. Instead, I watched Voicemails from Isabel and the second season of The Four Seasons. Eight episodes. Five hours.

It was that kind of day.

When I finally picked up The Unwilding, it was less out of desire than obligation. The hour had grown late and I felt compelled to salvage something from the day. I managed ten pages before a mounting migraine brought an end to the effort, interrupting what had finally become an exciting chapter after a long stretch of careful detail and little action.

Not enough to satisfy me, but enough to keep the pages turning tomorrow.

I should be better by then.

And I better finish the book as well.

I know! I felt like I developed The Nesting Instinct as soon as I came down with the infection. Thank you for your kind words!

Ha – It must be the season, because I have been deep cleaning for the past two days as well! I hope you feel better soon! I am going to have to look up that book, “The Unwilding.” The title alone is intriguing. How do you like it?

Hi Melissa, something must definitely be in the air then! Lots of restlessness paired with the heat wave… And I’ve been loving The Unwilding by Marina Kemp, however, now that I’m about 100 pages from finishing the book, I’m starting to wonder if the writing style alone can save the final review.

Let me know if you like it once you get around to watching it! I was actually pleasantly surprised. I expected to dive into the 2000s wave of romcoms. It didn’t top my favourites, but I will agreed with everyone who called it the best Romcom of the 2020s.

From the trailer I thought it was a bittersweet romance. Anyway I’ll watch it.

Humour definitely strings the plot along, and every single character is as ridiculous as the last. I might rewatch it tonight after writing to you about it.
